Brian Gadbow
Cello
A native of Whitesboro NY, Brian Gadbow is a passionate cellist, chamber musician, and educator. Brian began playing the cello in his public school music program at the age of 8. Brian studied privately with Gregory Wood of the Syracuse
Orchestra and was a member of the Syracuse Youth Orchestra. In 2014 he made his solo debut playing the Haydn Cello Concerto in C Major with the Syracuse Orchestra (Formerly Symphoria). In 2015 Brian was the winner of the Robinson award and performed at the Skaneateles festival. He attended the Eastman School of music where he was a principal cellist of the Eastman Philharmonia.Â
He completed his Bachelor’s Degree in 2020 studying with David Ying, cellist of the Grammy award-winning Ying Quartet. In 2023 Brian received his Master’s of Music degree from the University of Delaware where he studied with Estelle Choi of the Calidore Quartet. From 2021-2023 Brian was the cellist of the award-winning Abeo Quartet. The Quartet was the inaugural Graduate String Quartet at the University of Delaware and mentored by the renowned Calidore String Quartet.Â
During this time Abeo won 1 st prize at the Yellow Springs Chamber Music Festival, silver medal at the Chesapeake International Chamber Music Competition, 3 rd Prize at the Bad Tolz International String Quartet Competition, the Concert Artists Guild competition, were finalists of the 2021 and 2022 Young Concert Artists Competitions, and were semifinalists at the 2022 Banff International String Quartet Competition and Melbourne International String Quartet Competition. The Quartet also performed at the Schneider concert series, Amelia Island Chamber Music Festival, Caramoor Center for the Arts,
and Great Lakes Chamber Music Festival. They also participated in the Juilliard String Quartet Seminar and Robert Mann String Quartet Institute.
Brian has participated in masterclasses with Lynn Harrell and Antonio Meneses, coachings with members of the Emerson, Ying, Juilliard, Calidore, and Dover Quartets, and has collaborated with both the Calidore and Dover String Quartets, Alessio Bax, and Shai Wosner. Summer festivals include the Eastern Music Festival, Boston University Tanglewood Institute, Perlman Music Program, Music@Menlo, and the McGill International String Quartet Academy.
