  • Bio

    Elissa May Murphy is an Upstate New York flutist, woodwind musician, conductor, educator, and arts advocate. An active chamber and orchestral performer, she maintains a multi-dimensional career across concert stage, pit orchestra, and podium. Her performance credits include appearances with the Syracuse Orchestra, Masterworks Chorale, Eastman Graduate Conducting Orchestra, and OSSIA New Music Ensemble.

    A versatile woodwind doubler, she has performed with Blackfriars Theatre and JCC Centerstage, appearing as flutist, clarinetist, and saxophonist in productions including Ragtime, Austen’s Pride, Spamalot, Jerry’s Girls, Indecent, Guys and Dolls, The Rocky Horror Picture Show, and Avenue Q. She is an active performing member of Utica’s B Sharp Music Club.

    As a conductor, Murphy has led the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee Symphony Band alongside Colonel Jason Fettig, former director of “The President’s Own” United States Marine Band, and has received mentorship from Marin Alsop, Karen Ní Bhroin, and Drs. Mallory Thompson, Daniel Cook, Thomas Gamboa, Courtney Snyder Ng, and Trish Cornett. She serves as Vice President of the Board of the Clinton Symphony Orchestra and serves as Director of Elementary Bands for the Whitesboro Central School District.
